Our Story

We are very thankful to all the people who have participated in the Storehouse Fund over the years to expand awareness in this area of ministry.

I noticed in Scripture a pattern of care and covenant for the least (the poor, orphan, refugee, and Levite) that formally begins in the Mosaic Covenant. Our understanding of the tithes and offerings of the Old and New Testament almost always take into consideration the 'least of these.'  In fact, did you know that scholars everywhere agree that a key reason for the explosive growth of the early church was the care and attention given to the poor in a time when they were discarded and overlooked completely?

We want to equip churches with the resources and teaching to develop their own internal Storehouse Fund’s that each individual local church can operate to not only collect generous offerings for the least but mobilize and empower their community unto.  Some members are more able to give than others, and others are more able to serve.  We believe the fabric of this ministry takes both, and Storehouse Fund is a solution to knitting together this tapestry in the local community life of a church.

At large, we believe this offering, which we properly call a ‘tithe,’ is demonstrated clearly in the original Mosaic Covenant in Deuteronomy 14 and 26, with a special provision related to how the tithe is handled and distributed, that makes it special.

“At the end of every three years, bring a tenth of all your produce for that year and store it within your city gates.  Then the Levite, who has no portion or inheritance among you, the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow within your city gates may come, eat, and be satisfied. And the LORD your God will bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.” (Deuteronomy 14:28-29)

And how it is handled;

"When you have finished paying all the tenth of your produce in the third year, the year of the tenth, you are to give it to the Levites, resident aliens, fatherless children, and widows, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied.  Then you will say in the presence of the LORD your God (emphasis mine):

"I have taken the consecrated portion out of my house; I have also given it to the Levites, resident aliens, fatherless children, and widows, according to all the commands you gave me. I have not violated or forgotten your commands.  I have not eaten any of it while in mourning, or removed any of it while unclean, or offered any of it for the dead. I have obeyed the LORD my God; I have done all you commanded me.  Look down from your holy dwelling, from heaven, and bless your people Israel and the land you have given us as you swore to our ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey.” (Deuteronomy 26:12-15)
